Supporting Newcastle’s West End Refugee Service
We love our home city of Newcastle upon Tyne, and we’re committed to supporting the people that live here through charity initiatives.
Earlier this year we walked more than 1,000 combined miles for Street Zero, a local charity committed to ending rough sleeping in Newcastle by 2022. Our upcoming Autumn 2021 Charity Event will be to walk part of the Roman Military Way and Hadrian’s Wall, across steep and craggy terrain along the edge of a cliff, to raise money for the West End Refugee Service (WERS).
WERS provides crucial support services for asylum seekers and refugees in Newcastle. Depending on donations and volunteers, WERS provides practical help, advice and advocacy, home visits, clothing and household items to service users. They also manage a Hardship Fund, providing emergency payments to clients in extreme need.
On top of this, WERS also gives emotional support through a befriending scheme and delivered an extensive awareness-raising, education and training programme addressing the need for accurate information, challenging the still prevalent negativity surrounding asylum seekers and refugees.
Alongside monetary donations, we are also gathering and donating toiletries and cleaning products to WERS, which are in high demand.
To help make more of a difference to WERS and the lives of refugees and asylum seekers in Newcastle, you can donate to WERS via our Just Giving page.
